Chip Chip

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 15, 2026

Welcome to Chip.

Chip is designed with a simple philosophy: your information should stay on your device whenever possible. This Privacy Policy explains what information Chip uses, how it is handled, and the choices you have regarding your privacy.

By using Chip, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

About Chip

Chip is an alarm clock and morning routine application designed to help you wake up intentionally through alarms, Wakepapers, guided wake experiences, and optional sleep insights.

Chip is designed to operate primarily on your device and does not require an online account.

Information Stored on Your Device

Chip stores information locally on your device to provide its features. This may include:

  • Alarm settings
  • Wakepaper selections
  • Wake Flow responses
  • Profile information you choose to provide (such as your display name, age, sex, and profile photo)
  • App preferences and settings
  • Local alarm history
  • Local post-wake history
  • Limited local diagnostic information used to improve reliability on your device

This information is stored locally and is not transmitted to us.

Health Data

With your permission, Chip can access certain information from Apple Health to provide sleep-related features. Chip may read:

  • Sleep Analysis
  • Sleep Stages
  • Heart Rate
  • Respiratory Rate
  • Blood Oxygen
  • Wrist Temperature (when available)

Health information is:

  • Processed on your device
  • Never sold
  • Never used for advertising
  • Never shared with third parties
  • Never written back to Apple Health

Chip does not collect or receive your Health information.

You may revoke Health access at any time through the Health app or iOS Settings.

Photos

If you choose to use Wakepapers or set a profile image, Chip may request access to selected photos from your Photo Library. Chip uses these photos only to:

  • Create Wakepapers
  • Display your selected profile image

Photos are processed locally on your device. Chip does not upload, sell, or share your photos.

When Chip stores a local copy of your selected profile image, unnecessary embedded metadata such as location information is removed.

Photo access may be changed at any time in iOS Settings.

Notifications

Chip uses AlarmKit and local notifications to deliver alarms and wake experiences. Chip does not use remote push notifications.

You can manage notification permissions at any time through iOS Settings.

Data Collection

Chip's developer does not collect personal information through the application. Chip currently does not:

  • Operate a backend server
  • Create online accounts
  • Synchronize data to the cloud
  • Track your activity
  • Use advertising services
  • Use analytics services
  • Use third-party crash reporting
  • Sell personal information
  • Share personal information with advertisers or data brokers

Apple Services

Chip relies on Apple frameworks such as HealthKit, Photos, AlarmKit, and Local Notifications. Depending on your device settings, Apple may independently manage:

  • iCloud Photos
  • Device backups
  • System diagnostics

These services are provided by Apple and governed by Apple's own privacy policies.

Data Retention

Information stored by Chip remains on your device until it is removed. Chip currently retains:

  • Local alarm and post-wake history for up to 90 days
  • Limited local diagnostic information for a short period to assist with reliability

You may clear Chip's local data at any time using the Delete Local Data option within the app.

Deleting the app also removes its local application data from your device, although copies may remain in device backups until those backups expire or are deleted.

Your Choices

You can:

  • Delete all local Chip data from within the app
  • Revoke Health access
  • Revoke Photo Library access
  • Disable notifications
  • Uninstall Chip at any time

Most permissions can also be managed through the iOS Settings app.

Children's Privacy

Chip is not intended for children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Chip is designed to keep your information on your device whenever possible.

While we use reasonable safeguards to protect locally stored information, no software or storage method can guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Chip evolves.

If significant changes are made, the updated policy will be published on this page with a revised Effective Date.
